WE ARE STILL OPEN FOR 1:1 APPOINTMENTS
With the current lockdown in NSW, health professionals are still able to provide important health services to the community. Certain extra precautions have been taken and processes put in place to ensure your safety during appointments including increased cleaning, masks, QR check in, spaced out appointments and vaccinated staff.
If you wish to have an appointment via telehealth this can also be arranged.
Please reach out if you have any questions and we hope you and your loved ones are safe and well during this difficult time.
For people who have:
+ Just been diagnosed with cancer - for rehabilitation
+ Currently undergoing cancer treatment - surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, hormone therapy
+ Finished cancer treatment - no matter how many years ago and having ongoing symptoms of side effects from treatment
The type of treatment depends on which stage of the program you require, each stage of cancer treatment and recovery has different impacts on the body and different side effects that physiotherapy can assist with.
POST-OPERATIVE AND SCAR MANAGEMENT
After surgery, including post mastectomy, axillary clearance and breast reconstruction, it is important to address scars, axillary cording and swelling as soon as possible.
Treatment can include:
* Scar massage
* Manual lymphatic drainage,
* Products like silicone tape and scar healing oils/creams
* low level laser
* Education about self massage
Through specialised assessment and treatment, recovery after surgery can be optimised and scarring minimised.
Our physiotherapist is a Level 1 & 2 ALA Accredited Lymphoedema Therapist who is able to diagnose and treat both primary and secondary lymphoedema. Depending on the stage and cause of lymphoedema the following treatments are utilised:
* Multilayer Lymphedema Bandaging
* Garment Prescription
* Manual Lymphatic Drainage
We also have a SOZO machine, used to measure fluid via a special measure called the L-Dex. The L-Dex reading is a very quick and accurate, picking up small changes in fluid before it is even noticeable to the eye. If you are at risk of lymphoedema or concerned about new onset swelling, book in for a reading to determine what treatment and monitoring might be necessary.
SOZO AND L-DEX READING
The Positive Health Project is excited to announce we have secured a SOZO machine to take L-Dex readings for people with or at risk of lymphoedema.
An L-Dex reading is an important part of lymphoedema management, providing important data about your swelling and whether further treatment is required.
The SOZO machine is a quick, easy way of monitoring fluid levels and can detect even the smallest of changes in fluid levels, catching lymphoedema before it has a chance to progress.
People at risk of lymphoedema are:
Post breast cancer surgery
Post removal of lymph nodes
Post cancer treatment – radiation/chemotherapy
Family history of lymphoedema
Persistent uncontrolled swelling
For anyone who was being monitored by the Lymphoedema Clinic at the hospital, you can now book in for a reading. If you would like in person treatment while the Lymphoedema Clinic is only via telehealth, you can book in for an appointment with our ALA accredited lymphoedema therapist at our Narellan clinic.
From now until the end of the year, we are offering the opportunity to get a free reading with every manual lymphatic drainage massage session. So, don’t delay, get your L-Dex reading done now and take control over your lymphoedema. Book in via our website or give us a call on 0431 818 370.

FREE COMMUNITY EXERCISE CLASS CANCER SURVIVORS
****** POSTPONED DUE TO COVID-19 LOCKDOWN RESTRICTIONS IN GREATER SYDNEY *******
The last year has been a difficult one, especially for those who were also fighting cancer, so I am looking to give back and provide an opportunity for cancer survivors to put themselves and their health first.
The class is hosted at Spring Farm Community Centre on Friday mornings at 9.30am.
You need to bring your own yoga mat ($5-10) and cardio step ($20 Big W) each week. If you have not exercises since your cancer diagnosis you would also need to attend a 15-20 minute screening appointment prior to commencing at the Narellan Clinic so we can ensure the class is appropriate and safe.
